6. Sunderland Sacking Martin O'Neill
Sunderland's decision to axe fan favourite Martin O'Neill at the end of March was both sad and puzzling. The noose around his neck had been tightened by the 3-1 defeat to QPR and 1-1 draw with strugglers Norwich, and the execution was complete thanks to defeat to Manchester United. But the timing of his dismissal was bizarre. There were only 7 games left to play at the time and with the club in total free fall, they needed stability. Axing a manager at that stage of the season was a bold move and one that may yet backfire. The Black Cats are 17th in the table at present and could drop into the bottom three by the time they take on Southampton on Sunday, and there's some who say they'd deserve it due to their ill-treatment of the likable Irishman.
