Premier League: 10 Summer Transfers That Simply Made No Sense

10. Costel Pantilimon - Man City To Sunderland

With City keeper Joe Hart never far from one of his trademark gaffes, Romanian Costel Pantilimon saw plenty of action for a second-choice. Donning the City gloves on 18 occasions last season, including seven in the Premier League, he established himself as a worthy competitor for the right to guard the net on a consistent basis. One could see his thought-process behind the move to Wearside this summer - the Romanian wanted first-team football. It looks like the move may have backfired a little, in that he has simply swapped for a less swankier bench to sit on every week, and a decrease in weekly pay packet. Italian fan favourite Vito Mannone is fast gaining a reputation as an excellent shot-stopper in the north-east. In 12 months time, when current City No. 2 Willy Caballero has made the most of Hart's penchant for the erratic and deputised when called upon, Pantilimon might just wish he hadn't signed for a club with a more stable first-choice.
