Premier League: 10 Summer Transfers That Simply Made No Sense

9. Michel Vorm - Swansea City To Spurs

Since signing for Swansea City in 2011, Dutch goalkeeper Michel Vorm has established himself as one of the finest shot-stoppers in the Premier League, forcing his way into the international set-up under Louis van Gaal. Having tasted a couple of seconds of World Cup football this summer, one would have suspected that Vorm would have returned to south Wales with a hunger, drive and desire to keep producing stellar performances for Garry Monk's side, as he bids to oust the first-choice Jasper Cillesen for the European Championships in France. However, Vorm has essentially committed career suicide by consigning himself to the purgatory of the bench. Jumping at the opportunity of European football and an increase in salary, he signed a long-term contract at White Hart Lane upon his return from Brazil, much to the bewilderment of Swansea City supporters. Hugo Lloris is unquestionably the No.1 at Spurs, and while Vorm will provide a healthier spate of competition than the 41 year old Brad Friedel, it's still safe to assume that the French captain will not be ousted from the Spurs starting line-up in the near future. The Dutch goalkeeper is currently one of the best supporting acts in the country, but his talents deserve first-team football. One would have to admire his self-belief in feeling capable of depriving Lloris of his starting berth, but the cold reality for Vorm is that he will simply be nothing more than a glorified supporter, relegated to a few domestic cup appearances over the course of his four year contract.
