Premier League 2013-14: Season Predictions

Manchester United

Ever since Sir Alex Ferguson threatened to retire at the end of the 2001-02 season, in every mind of a United there has been a hypothetical question whirling around of "what would a season be like when Ferguson is no longer there?" Now, that fantasy is an absolute reality and we are on the cusp on finding an answer. In terms of new face, not for the wanting of trying, mind, the squad remains the one that cantered to the League in May bar the acquisition of left back Guillermo Varela. A tough tackling, creative, central midfielder is long awaited and despite names such as Fabregas, Strootman and Ozil being banded around in the media, all remain at the same club as last season, or in Strootman's case at Roma. Also, a full back may not go amiss or someone in that mould that will stop the opposition creating so many chances, like last season. Wayne Rooney has remained the likeliest person to enact movement either from or away Old Trafford, yet he remains at the moment, in situ as a United player, although it is likely that he won't make any more waves on the field in a red United shirt. That gives Javier Hernandez an opportunity to showcase his talent on a regular basis then and justify why Ferguson signed him in the first place and aim to ease the workload of Robin Van Persie, who regularly had to act to save United from dropping points. Last season 11 players scored at least one league goal and if this can continue than plenty of goals can be guaranteed. However, as many observers, have noted Chelsea and Manchester City have made better additions to their squad than United and ultimately for Moyes' first season, they will be behind the above pair Prediction: 3rd
