Premier League 2019/20: 8 Big Takeaways From Gameweek One

4. The Race For The Golden Boot

Last season the Golden Boot title was split three ways, between Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Arsenal, and Sadio Mane and Mo Salah of Liverpool. All three hit 22 goals throughout the season, and like everyone else in the league, have had their accounts reset for the 2019-20 season, meaning it could be anyone’s title this year.

While it may be too early to tell after just one game, Raheem Sterling could well be in with a shout come the end of the season. The England international hit a very impressive hat-trick against West Ham United, and could have had four if Sergio Aguero had passed over penalty taking duties.

Chasing Sterling from the very start of the season is Burnley’s big striker Ashley Barnes and England international Marcus Rashford, each netting a brace against Southampton and Chelsea respectively. Spurs fans will also be relieved after Harry Kane scored twice in Tottenham's win over Villa, given the England captain's past struggles with scoring in August.

After Grant Hanley and Abdoulaye Doucoure put the ball in the wrong net, the own goal category is currently also standing at two goals. Most seasons, 'own goal' ends the season top of the goalscoring charts, and probably will again this year.
