Premier League: 8 Glaring Questions From This Season So Far

2. Who Exactly Will Be On The Plane To Brazil In The Summer?

Barring any injuries, numerous players are certain to go to Brazil and represent their country in the Summer. Hart, Cahill, Jagielka, Johnson, Baines, Cole, Wilshire, Gerrard, Rooney, Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge are the players who you would find it very hard to believe won't be picked in Roy Hodgson's 23 man squad. That leaves a lot of uncertainty with the players that are left, however, with some having only featured for England in the last few matches of qualifying. Joe Hart will without doubt be in goal, with either Ben Foster or Fraser Forster warming the bench. The central defensive partnership is set with Cahill and Jagielka. Johnson is out best choice at right back (which ,unfortunately, doesn't fill us with confidence) and left back is reserved for one of either Baines or Cole. Hodgson then has some decisions to make. Phil Jones will most probably go due to his tag as a utility man and Chris Smalling seems to be in the England Boss's good books. But will Roy really take Kyle Walker given his disastrous form for both club and country? In midfield, Gerrard and Wilshire appear to be our most effective choice of players in the middle, with Gerrard sitting deep and the Arsenal man making the runs and making the decisive passes. Carrick, Lampard and Henderson are the only other viable options for the middle of the park and none of those options really scream 'international quality at the moment'. Theo Walcott would have been a definite to start in the summer (due to form and lack of any other option). But his untimely injury has led to some questions about who will replace him. Does Hodgson entrust Andros Townsend in a major tournament, or go with James Milner on the right? Milner seems the sensible option but is much less exciting. On the left, you could employ one of either Welbeck or Sturridge, providing plenty of stamina and a good finisher in Sturridge. Adam Lallana could also go to warm the bench, along with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Upfront is also rather contentious at this time. Will Hodgson opt for Rooney up front by himself? Or partner him with Sturridge? Andy Carroll and Rickie Lambert are the other two names being chucked about to be in the squad but they seem very similar. Will he really take 4 strikers to the World Cup if he only plans on using one of them? Roy Hodgson has a few decisions to make before England get their World Cup Campaign under way against Italy on the 14th of June.
