Premier League Review: 5 Talking Points From Saturday’s Matches

5. West Brom Could Be This Season's Newcastle

Roy Hodgson€™s stabilisation of West Bromwich Albion was a brilliant job which achieved what West Brom had spent a decade not accomplishing; staying in the Premier League. His loss was a big one and when the appointment of Steve Clarke was made many Albion fans were worrying over how this could progress. However like the Pardew appointment in replacement of Hughton, this seems to mark a significant step forward for The Albion who played with more purpose and style than under Hodgson whilst also maintaining their shape at the back which Hodgson was so keen to install. Obviously it€™s early days and West Brom need another centre back if they want to have the squad depth to avoid disaster; but with a progressive Head Coach, shrewd summer signings (today€™s man of the match, Yacob, was a free transfer) and a soundly run infrastructure West Brom could be one of this year€™s surprise packages.
