Premier League: Do Top 7 Teams Need To Strengthen In January?

3. Everton

The Merseyside club are benefiting from being a close knit group that understand the way each other plays. However, it would be appropriate for them to invest in another striker given that Romelu Lukaku is only on loan and Nikica Jelavic seems to be on his way out of the club. Wilfried Zaha would suit their style well but he would probably only be available as a loan signing, and wouldn't represent a long-term investment, even if his affordability would be attractive. With Gerard Deulofeu suffering from injury, the squad could use another winger to provide depth and Aiden McGeady could be the solution. The Irishman is unsettled in Russia and another tricky winger would please the home support, who have grown quickly accustomed to Roberto Martinez's fast flowing style. The only question is whether to wait for summer when he could come in on a bosman but with Everton going so well in the league, shelling out the cash now could see greater reward next season. Cover for Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin is also necessary and Curtis Davies of Hull seems to have adjusted to Premier League life seamlessly again having managed to keep Suarez quiet in early December. At 28 he is both experienced and in his prime. Everton fans won't have to fear Ross Barkley leaving despite interest from Manchester United, according to their manager, at least. It would be illogical for him to leave first team football and a side that has great ambition ahead of the World Cup so it's more a case of who they can bring in.
