Premier League: Do Top 7 Teams Need To Strengthen In January?

4. Chelsea

Chelsea can field two sides and they both would be capable of competing at the top end of the league, but both of those sides would have an obvious weakness at the sharp end. Regardless of Mourinho's refusal to admit the flaw, his strikers continue to flounder - as an indication, Danny Welbeck is outscoring them combined and he is only on a whopping 6 goals this season. Fernando Torres is never going to be the same again, Samuel Eto'o is not the man from Inter and Barcelona and Demba Ba is a backup at best. Romelu Lukaku continues to impress at Everton and should never have been let go but now it would serve both parties better if he continues developing on Merseyside rather than sitting behind inferior players and growing frustrated. Rumours of Falcao's unrest seem persistent and he would be a suitable target but is another enormous fee really worthy of the risk? A better option may be Colombian striker Jackson Martinez of Porto, who could have been picked up 2 years ago for £8 Million but even at close to four times that amount, he still would represent a smarter buy. Other than that, the left back position could use strengthening as Ashley Cole has no back up other than Ryan Betrand who is being linked with moves away and Azpilicueta who is naturally a right back.
