Premier League Transfers: 15 Most Successful January Signings
3. Patrice Evra - Monaco To Manchester United
Fee:£5.5 million, January 2006. Manchester Uniteds vice-captain Patrice Evra signed for the club in January 2006 for £5.5 million, and despite a stuttering start, he has gone on to become one of United's most important players, as well as one of their most consistent performers. It could have all been very different, as his difficult start - which included being substituted at half time on his debut against Manchester City - suggested he might not be suited to the rigours of the Premier League, but he has cast off any doubts since then. Evras eight years at United have included many personal and team honours: he has been named in the Premier League Team of the Year on three occasions and in the UEFA Team of the Year in 2009, and has also helped Manchester United win the Premier League five times, League Cup three times, the Champions League and the FIFA World Club Cup. Evra has been a star performer at left back and a captain for the Champions, which all in all is not bad for £5.5 million.
