11. John Carew - Lyon To Aston Villa
Fee: Swap deal, January 2007. In January 2007 Aston Villa signed striker John Carew in a swap deal with Milan Baros who went in the opposite direction to French club Lyon. Baros had struggled at Aston Villa and Carew proved to be a more than capable replacement for the Czech, scoring 13, 11 and ten league goals in his three seasons at the club. He was a regular in Martin ONeills successful Aston Villa team, which challenged at the top end of the Premier League, reached the League Cup final and qualified for the Europa League before the wheels fell off somewhat and O'Neill left in in acrimonious circumstances. Carew eventually left Aston Villa after four and a half years at the Midlands club and swapping him with Milan Baros in January 2007 proved a shrewd bit of business.
