Premier League Transfers: 15 Most Successful January Signings

10. Gary Cahill - Bolton To Chelsea

Fee: £7 million, January 2012. In January 2012 Gary Cahill signed for Chelsea from Bolton for £7 million and he ended that season a Champions League winner. Cahill started his career at Aston Villa, but only really started to impress after moving to Bolton Wanderers, where his good form saw Chelsea come in for him. He started both Champions League semi-finals against Barcelona and the final against Bayern Munich, in a Champions League triumph that was based on an organised defence, which Cahill played a pivotal part of. He was also part of the team that won the FA Cup with Chelsea in 2012. Cahill€™s success at Chelsea continues and he€™s established himself in Jose Mourinho€™s first choice centre-back pairing alongside John Terry. £7 million for Cahill in January seems a snip now and imperative. Chelsea suffered a number of injuries and suspensions at centre-back during the back end of the 2011-12 season and without signing Cahill the Champions League may not have been won.
