Okay, this one is a bit of a cheat since his best season was 1997/98, a year before the inauguration of the SPL but Marco Negri is a name which fills most Rangers fans with wistful nostalgia.

In most situations this story would be of a player who stayed at a club for four years and scored a truckload of goals before going on to even bigger and better things but Negri's most significant SPL statistic is that he never scored a goal for Rangers.

In the SFL the previous season, Negri was prolific in his first 10 games, scoring 23 goals including 5 against Dundee United and 4 against Kilmarnock. After suffering an eye injury sustained while playing squash with Sergio Porrini (no, seriously) he was never the same player and suffered a string of injuries.

He played three games for Rangers during the next three seasons and never made the impact on the SPL which his talent demanded. A great loss for the Scottish game.
