Ranking Conor McGregor's 10 UFC Performances
7. Nate Diaz - UFC 202 (20 August 2016)
Often in combat sports, the most hyped fights don't deliver the goods on the night.
That cannot be said about this one.
A fantastic five round war with momentum swings all the way through. Diaz claimed with a full camp he wouldn't have been touched in the first fight, but Conor well and truly touched Nate early, dropping him three times in the first two rounds. Conor would tire badly again though, and again Diaz took over late in the second, dominating in the clinch and boxing comfortably from outside McGregor's range.
Perhaps Conor's saving grace was that Diaz himself tired, which gave him a way back into the fight. The Notorious One became somewhat notorious for "running" in the last two rounds, but in reality he was landing shots, ducking out, and resetting in the middle for another exchange. An adjustment he's never had to make before, but an effective tool to squeak out a close win. Diaz was visibly frustrated by McGregor's tactics, but it was the difference maker in the fight.
In the end, McGregor won a majority decision, receiving a 48-47 from two judges, with one scoring a 47-47 draw. McGregor got his revenge, and we'll just have to wait and see if we'll ever get the rubber match.
