Ranking The Best Football Transfers In Europe During Summer 2019/20
31. Pau Lopez - Roma
Finding a great goalkeeper isn't that hard to do. There are plenty available in the market. However, tactics determine transfers and managers are now looking for sweeper keepers who can pass the ball efficiently along with their other responsibilities. Finding a good sweeper who a coach can trust to do all that is far more difficult
That's why it was such a surprise when Roma let go of arguably the best modern day sweeper keeper in the world, Allison, to Liverpool last season, However, the Italian side have bounced back by making a clever signing in Pau Lopez from Real Betis.
Unlike a player like Manuel Neuer, Lopez wasn't trained from an early age to be a ball-playing goalkeeper. However, a season long loan at English club Tottenham, where he was coached into playing this particular way, helped alter his playing style completely.
After moving to Real Betis on a free transfer, Lopez's stock shot up as he had several impressive performances in goal for them last season. In fact, they were so impressive that Roma purchased him for €23.5 million to try and help them improve their defence after they qualified for the Europa League.
Lopez really has a chance to shine this season and performances similar to his at Betis make him one to watch.
