If ever there was a footballing farce for the ages, it was the David De Gea transfer/not transfer between Real Madrid and Manchester Unites this summer. The fans assumed he was going, the player assumed he was going, and even the clubs assumed he was going. Yet somehow, somehow, he didn't. Sky Sports have reported that the deal will be resurrected in January, but if one or both club's aren't able to swallow their pride sufficiently, then Madrid will have to look elsewhere. Factor in the additional cost that's now arisen as a result of De Gea's shiny and lucrative 4-year-contract, and that option becomes all the more appealing. There's a genuine dearth of quality goalkeepers available at present, but at 29 years old Lloris offers any club a stable and dependable number 1 for at least the next 4 seasons. Whilst this is arguably harsh reflection on the performances of Keylor Navas this season, it's clear that neither he nor Kika Casilla are seen as the long-term solution to life after Iker for Madrid. Lloris has recently spoken of his commitment to Tottenham and, in particular, his manager Mauricio Pochettino, but the allure of both Madrid and Zinedine Zidane would surely be too much of a pull for the goalkeeper.
