Real Sociedad 0-0 Man Utd: Player Ratings

Manchester United

David De Gea: Had almost nothing to do. Can be forgiven for a dodgy punch on Vela's long range effort as nothing came of it. A clean sheet is a clean sheet. 5/10. Chris Smalling: Ably deputized for Rafael, largely contained Griezmann, but poor crossing going forward. 5/10. Rio Ferdinand: Had little to do, but let Seferovic get a shot away deep in stoppage time. 5/10. Nemanja Vidic: Great tackle on Vela at one point. Tailor made for away trips in Europe. 6/10. Patrice Evra: Tried to link with Kagawa and later Young whenever possible, willing outlet down the left. Defended when against Vela, but booked for second half foul. 6/10. Antonio Valencia: Very quiet. Consistently inconsistent is Valencia's story. Had a shot turned over by a block late on. 4.5/10. Marouane Fellaini: Inelegant and a liability. Still committed niggling fouls after being booked for a challenge on Bergara. Will take the brunt of criticism and deservedly so. Everton must be laughing. 3/10. Ryan Giggs: Passing radar a little bit off. Grand old man got through 90 minutes, but never unlocked the door of Sociedad defence. 5/10.
