Roberto Baggio At 50: 10 Perfect Goals

7. INTER Vs. Roma (Serie A, 1999/00)

Although Helenio Herrera's 'Grande Inter' side of the '60s was in decline immediately after Roberto Baggio's birth, the young Vicenza native nevertheless grew up idolising the Beneamata, and in 1998 finally had the chance to join his dream club.

The move didn't go quite to plan: the constant injuries which plagued Baggio's career and a string of managerial changes as Inter desperately (and expensively) tried to return to Italian football's top table saw the mercurial forward fall out of favour.

When relations with new coach Marcello Lippi turned sour, Baggio found himself excluded from the side, and only managed seven goals across the 1999/00 season as a result. However, his few strikes sparkled with his typical magic, and the winner against Roma in round 19, an instinctive over-the-shoulder volley which left the stranded Francesco Antonioli utterly stranded, was a clear message to his manager that he wasn't about to be forgotten so easily.

He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
