Ryan Giggs: 10 Greatest Moments At Man Utd

9. Breaking Bobby Charlton's Appearance Record

Ref #: PA.224180 Sir Bobby Charlton is a Manchester United legend, making 758 total appearances for the club between 1956 and 1973. It was a record many at the time thought would never be surpassed. For more than three decades the record stood, until May 21, 2008, when Giggs replaced Paul Scholes as a substitute in the Champions League final against Chelsea in Moscow. It was the Welshman's 759th appearance for the Red Devils, and Giggs marked it in style, by scoring what proved to be the winning penalty to help his side to a 6-5 win over the Blues (more on that, later). Though many once said Charlton's appearance record would never be broken, it is inconceivable to imagine anyone surpassing Giggs, who ended his career with an astonishing and unrivalled 963 appearances.
