Sheffield United 2-2 Newcastle United - Player Ratings

6. Steven Taylor - 5.5 (Replaced By Jamaal Lascelles After 70 Minutes)

It can't be nice to be partnered with Mike Williamson in the centre of defence, but Taylor has been around for long enough now to be able to deal with League One-quality attacks far better than he did at Bramall Lane. Another who was criminally caught out of possession for Sheffield Utd's first goal, Taylor committed a couple of silly fouls and struggled to communicate well enough with the rest of his side to create a solid defensive unit. Still needs more pre-season gametime under his belt before he will be fully fit.

Jamaal Lascelles - 6.5

A marked improvement on both Williamson and Taylor once he arrived in the 70th minute, Lascelles actually looked the calmest of all the Newcastle centre-backs on display. The added pace he brought ensured Lascelles could nullify some of Sheffield Utd's quick counter attacks, but he should have closed down Kieron Freeman more so he could have blocked off his piledriver of an equaliser late on.
