SkyBet League One Preview - Predicting How All Teams Will Finish This Season

Notts County

notts-county-kop-end1Manager: Chris Kiwomya Key Player: Gary Liddle Predicted Finish: 24th A controversial pick for bottom spot, however take a look at their squad and you'll be surprised. The loss of Alan Judge, Neal Bishop and Jeff Hughes will no doubt have a huge impact on the team and a budget cut means that manager Kiwomya has had to bring in several young, inexperienced players to the first team. Last season the team finished 12th in the table and the lack of quality in the side could cause them mega problems this time around. Kiwomya has openly admitted he is worried about the young players struggling to adapt in this division and its understandable why he feels like this.

Oldham Athletic

oldhamKey Player: Jose Baxter Manager: Lee Johnson Predicted Finish: 9th The appointment of Lee Johnson towards the end of last season came as a shock to many. The youngest manager in English football was predicted to fail before he had even stepped out to the dug-out. What a relief it must have been for Oldham fans then, when the club avoided relegation and did so with relative comfort. Fans are understandably optimistic coming into this campaign and I believe Oldham could turn out to be the surprise package this year. Jose Baxter was the teams stand out player last season, though it looks as though he could be challenged for this in the coming campaign. The addition of experienced striker Charlie McDonald has managed to turn a few heads, adding to what was already a very impressive front line. Oldham€™s weakness however could turn out to be their defence. The loss of Jean-Yves M€™voto leaves the back line without a real leader and the club has of yet have failed to replace him.

Peterborough United

peterboroughPredicted Finish: 2nd Key Player: Lee Tomlin Manager: Darren Ferguson Peterborough have become somewhat of a yo-yo side in recent years- masters of promotion from League One but constant strugglers in the division above. Darren Ferguson has plenty of experience at this level with Peterborough and it is this which I believe will be vital in getting The Posh out of the division again. Peterborough€™s biggest loss from last campaign is Dwight Gayle, the young starlet was a revelation in his first season in professional football and he has left a young void to fill. Striker Lee Tomlin however certainly knows where the net is and his experience could help them seal another promotion. It€™s been a slow summer in terms of signings for The Posh, with the only really notable addition to the team being that of Jack Payne from Gillingham.

Port Vale

Port Vale Manager: Micky Adams Key Player: Tom Pope Predicted Finish: 21st The valiants€™ dreams of a return to League One was completed last season, despite many predicting that their off field problems would shine through on the pitch. Micky Adams and his men proved everybody wrong whilst striker Tom Pope had the season of his career, firing in a total of 31 league goals. The League Two player of the year will be vital as Vale fight to keep their place in the division. Whilst Adams has certainly added some good additions to his squad, Vale appear to lack the necessary quality to keep them in the division.
