Southamption Transfer News: Saints Chairman Adamant Duo Aren't For Sale
Krueger has no intention of letting Spurs or Liverpool get their claws in key players.
It is fair to say that what has been happening at Southampton over the summer transfer window has been nothing short of remarkable, at the minute, their first team is more like that at crisis club Blackpool rather than a side that was challenging for a European spot for a good deal of last season. Yes, some good players remain with the Saints, but they're lost five star talents, and the news that two more players might have been on the way out wouldn't have been news to fans' ears. The club have already lost the services of five quality starting players with Chambers, Lovren, Shaw, Lallana and Lambert all leaving for pastures new and though their profit has been massive, the question of who will come in to replace such valuable assets is a big and concerning one. Given the precedent of the rest of the season, it came as no shock when Jay Rodriguez and Morgan Schneiderlin were rumoured to be the next to leave with reports linking them to Tottenham Hotspur yesterday and odds being slashed on the moves coming off. But in a show of solidarity with his fans, Saints Chairman Ralph Krueger has spoken directly to Sky Sports today to say that the duo are not moving anywhere: "Specifically to Rodriguez and Schneiderlin, they will be going anywhere. We see them as part of a core and the core we've got right now and in place is a core that is where Ronald would like to go and they are part of that core. "Any reports that Rodriguez or Schniederlin are leaving or we are engaged in transfer conversations are totally off the mark. They will not be sold." This core that Krueger refers to has been completely dismantled with the five departures but Saints fans will be hoping the money accrued from the sales can be used to build a team around this duo who are apparently now staying at St. Mary's - though not if Schneiderlin gets his own way.
