Southampton 2-3 Spurs: Premier League Player Ratings

Spurs stopped the rot after a bad week that saw them sack Andre Villas-Boas and crash out of the League Cup by beating Southampton on the South Coast.

Emmanuel Adebayor's double and a Jos Hooiveld own goal got Tottenham three welcome points here. They had fallen behind to an opener from Saints skipper Adam Lallana and were later pegged back to 2-2 by Rickie Lambert.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino rotated youngsters Luke Shaw and James Ward-Prowse for more senior heads Danny Fox and Morgan Schneiderlin. Summer signing Dani Osvaldo made way for Lallana too from the team that drew up at Newcastle last time out.

Tottenham caretaker Tim Sherwood made four changes from the League Cup quarter-final exit to West Ham. England attacking trio Andros Townsend, Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe joined Etienne Capoue in making way. Michael Dawson, Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado returned.

An away win for Hotspur here lifted them up to seventh. The Saints are now nine points off the top four as their impressive early season form has fallen away somewhat.
