Southampton Transfers: 5 More Players Who Could Leave (And 5 Who Could Join)
3. Nathaniel Clyne
Southampton have already lost one right back this summer when the promising academy graduate Calum Chambers was snapped up by Arsenal for a fee that could rise to £16 million. Chambers is a player with great potential, but only played 21 times in a variety of positions in his debut season because Saints already have one of the best young right backs in the country: Nathaniel Clyne. With Glen Johnson struggling to impress in the World Cup it can only be a matter of time before Clyne gets an England call up and the former Under-21 international has already generated interest from bigger clybs. Clyne, who Saints value at £15 million, was linked with a move to Chelsea last summer and now seems Brendan Rodgers' choice to replace the defensively frail Johnson for club as well as country. Most of these rumours implied a joint signing of Clyne and Adam Lallana, which did not materialise when Lallana moved alone, so this may be a temporary reprieve for Saints, at least until Liverpool come in for their next St. Mary's raid.
