Southampton Transfers: 5 More Players Who Could Leave (And 5 Who Could Join)
5. Virgil van Dijk
With Forster's departure for Southampton, it is only a matter of time before other leading Celtic players are looking for a move to a more competitive league. The club may have been spared their Champions League exit for now, but it was via legal and not footballing means and that suggests that they may not be in the competition for long. As soon as Celtic are eliminated players like defender van Dijk are likely to follow Forster to the Premier League. Southampton are desperate for a new centre back around whom to build their defence after the departure of last season's defensive star Dejan Lovren to Liverpool for £20 million and new manager Koeman is an avowed admirer of compatriot van Dijk. Celtic are asking for around £10 million, half what Saints received for Lovren, for van Dijk who is also targetted by Newcastle and Swansea. Saints can only hope that the high regard with which Koeman is held by the Dutch can secure van Dijk a move to join fellow ex-Celtic stars Forster and Victor Wanyama.
