Southampton Transfers: 5 Players Saints Must Keep This Summer

4. Luke Shaw (Left Back)

Of course, it may be naïve to believe that Southampton can hold onto Luke Shaw, especially now that he has received his first England call-up. It€™s worth mentioning that with Ashley Cole not getting games at Chelsea; there is every possibility of becoming regular within that England squad. However, it becomes harder and harder to keep him with every game for England that he plays. I think we all know that clubs will come sniffing around him in the summer, but the Saints should be in no rush to sell. The lad is still only 18 years old and still establishing himself as a first team player. After coming through the hugely successful youth system at the club; he may feel he wants to stay for a few more years before moving on. It€™s also worth remembering that many young players have seen their career ruined by moving onto too big of a club too quickly. Furthermore, Southampton must consider transfer value here. There is no doubt that they could get a significant chunk of change now or this summer at least, but he will be more valuable after England caps and more Premier League experience. Of course, it also helps that the Saints seem to be in a good place right now, meaning they can hopefully progress to match Shaw€™s lofty ambitions.
