Southampton Transfers: 5 Strikers To Replace Dani Osvaldo

We are now into the last few days of the January transfer window, with plenty of business that can still be done. One potential departure from the Premier League is Dani Osvaldo who is likely to return to Serie A following a training ground bust-up with teammate Jose Fonte. After Osvaldo attacked Fonte he was suspended for two weeks, and the Italian€™s victim received a black eye for his trouble. It has now emerged that the former Roma man could end up with a fine that nearly reaches £250k if he is still at Southampton when the transfer window closes. However, one possible sticking point is recouping the £15m that the English club paid for him during the summer. The purpose of this slideshow is to look at where Southampton may look to reinvest the money that they do receive in terms of a new forward. As always, I will be using a combination of opinion and Who Scored stats in this piece.

5. Danny Ings (Burnley)

When looking towards signing a top quality striker, then it€™s obvious to have a little in the Championship €“ especially those that are performing well and still young. Burnley€™s Danny Ings is certainly one that fits into that, he has scored 16 goals in the league this season; a record that has only been beaten by Leeds United€™s Ross McCormack this season. As mentioned, age is another big factor that Ings has on his side since he is still only 21. However, Burnley are currently placed third in the league, and are unlikely to want to sell their top scorer while promotion to the Premier League in on the line. Therefore, it may take a sizeable bid in order to prise Ings away. The player though has been in superb form this season, and his versatility to be used as attacking midfielder or central striker makes him an even more attractive proposition. Further stats on the player include 3.6 shots, 1.3 key passes 0.8 dribbles per match; he has also provided two assists this season as well as an average rating of 7.25.
