3. His Former Club Ruined His One Chance Of Success At Spurs
In the 2002 League Cup final, Tim Sherwood came closest to winning his second major honour as a player (the first being the Premier League title with Blackburn Rovers) against the very team with which he won his first major title - and the team from which he moved to Spurs. Sherwood lined up in a midfield that also included Darren Anderton, Gus Poyet and Christian Ziege in a 2-1 loss against Rovers at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, as goals from Matt Jansen and Andy Cole either side of Ziege's effort sealed the Lilywhites' fate. Graeme Souness was the Blackburn manager at the time and, after the game, he famously said "we are a small club and they are a big club - it is great for us". Spurs were managed by Glenn Hoddle at the time - ironically Hoddle was one of the rival names in the hat for the Spurs post when it became vacant prior to Sherwood's permanent appointment last month. Man of the Match in that game was current Spurs' second choice goalkeeper Brad Friedel.
