Spurs And Chelsea Enter Race For Newcastle's Jamaal Lascelles
It's looking increasingly likely the defender will leave Tyneside.
Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea will rival Everton for the signature of sought-after Newcastle centre back Jamaal Lascelles, according to The Evening Standard.
The newspaper's website reports that the 24-year old defender has emerged as a key target for both London clubs. Chelsea, despite the uncertainty surrounding Antonio Conte this summer, want to strengthen their backline. Meanwhile, Spurs are bracing themselves to lose Toby Alderweireld to Man Utd after the Belgian knocked back a new contract.
Both are prepared to match Everton's impending £30 million offer for the Newcastle man, although it's understood that the Toon will hold out for as much as £45 million from potential suitors.
Newcastle signed Lascelles in 2014 and he recently inked a new contract with the club that will keep him at St. James' Park until 2023. Spurs, Chelsea, Everton or anyone else interested would have to stump up some serious cash to take him away from Rafael Benitez's side.
Lascelles was a key figure for Newcastle last campaign, and his strong performances in defence were a major reason why the club retained its Premier League status.
