3. Luka Modric
Like Dimitar Berbatov before him, Luka Modric severed his relationship with Tottenham Hotspur's fans when he forcefully made his exit from the club for bigger things - in his case to Spanish giants Real Madrid. After having signed for Spurs in 2008, for a then joint club record fee (with Darren Bent) of £16.5 million, Modric went from a good player with potential to a great player. He attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United (who saw him as a potential replacement for the retiring Paul Scholes) and Real Madrid - and it was when the latter came calling that the problems started. He essentially went on strike - not turning up for training with the club in order to make a statement of his intent to leave - which is highly unprofessional and understandably made the fans angry. To rub salt in to Spurs' fans wounds, 36 hours after he signed for the Madrid side for a fee of around £33 million, Modric won his first trophy with the club - the 2012 Supercopa de España against Barcelona. The deal with Real was said to bring with it a fruitful commercial affiliation between them and Spurs, but the White Hart Lane club are yet to see anything good come from it, which has made matters worse.
