Spurs Transfers: 10 Most Wildly Over-Priced Signings Ever

1. Sergei Rebrov (£11 Million)

In the year 2000, Spurs signed Ukrainian international Sergei Rebrov for a then-club record fee of £11 million. Rebrov joined from Dynamo Kiev, where he had formed one half of the formidable and famous Dynamo strike partnership alongside Andrei Shevchenko, who had left the previous year to join AC Milan in Italy. He played 59 Premier League games for Spurs, 37 of which were starts, but he only managed ten league goals. His time at Spurs saw him twice shipped out on loan to Turkish side Fenerbahce and he would eventually sign for Spurs' Premier League rivals West Ham United, for free, in 2004. What Rebrov proved at Spurs is that he was riding on the coattails of Shevchenko in his time at Dynamo Kiev and wasn't half the player that the partnership made him look. For comparison, Shevckenko scored 127 goals in 208 league appearances for Milan. So there you have it - Spurs' ten most wildly over-priced signings ever. Did you enjoy this article?
