Spurs Transfers: 10 Most Wildly Over-Priced Signings Ever
5. Ben Thatcher (£5 Million)
In 2002, Spurs signed Ben Thatcher from Wimbledon for £5 million. He was brought in by George Graham and was never really good enough to be playing for a club at the top end of the Premier League table - a point epitomised by the fact that, after Graham was sacked just a few months after Thatcher's arrival and replaced by Glenn Hoddle, he barely featured for the club again. Thatcher basically lacked talent. He was a rash, boisterous defender with a penchant for lashing out needlessly. He joined Spurs with intentions of playing for England - a mere two years later he had given up on the idea and opted to play for Wales (who he only played for seven times). By that time, he'd already joined Leicester City for a mere £300,000 - a £4.7 million loss on a 27 year old player signed just two years earlier.
