Spurs Transfers: 4 Reasons Why Gareth Bale's Really Not Worth £78 Million

3. Is He Really £27 Million Better Than Radamel Falcao?

Gareth Bale will become just the latest big-money transfer story when he eventually joins Real Madrid. Already this summer, we've seen some serious stacks of cash forked out for individual players, like the £50 million Monaco paid Atletico Madrid for Radamel Falcao back in May. And with Bale set to cost £2 million less than the world-transfer record, effectively making him the second costliest player on the planet, you can't help but compare his valuation with that of everybody else. Is the Welshman really £27 million better than Falcao, who scored 28 La Liga goals last season to Bale's 21 Premier League strikes? Perhaps it's unfair to compare the two, considering one is an attacking midfielder and the other is a striker. So is Bale seven times the player as his midfield colleague Philippe Coutinho, who arrived at Liverpool back in January for £8.5 million? How about David Silva, Juan Mata and Christian Eriksen? Is Bale really five and six times the player as each of them? We would suggest not.
