Earlier this week, we reported that Tottenham striker Jermaine Defoe has agreed a move to MLS side Toronto FC in the January transfer window. Defoe has accepted an incredible £90,000-a-week switch to the Canadian club, and will call time on his four-year stay at White Hart Lane in the New Year. Despite being Spurs's top goalscorer this season with seven strikes, his departure will draw a line under what has been an otherwise frustrating stint in London. The arrival of Roberto Soldado from Valencia over the summer pushed the former Portsmouth man down the pecking order at the club, limiting him to just the one Premier League start. The move means Defoe will finish his career outside Europe - which has certain ramifications for his World Cup aspirations in 2014 - while for Tottenham, the hunt for a replacement begins. With Emmanuel Adebayor also looking likely to leave, only rookie Harry Kane would be left in support of Soldado, and clearly manager Andre Villas-Boas needs to dip back into the transfer market this winter. The Portuguese spent a cool £111 million over the summer, and may have to spend heavily again to rebuild a forward line that has only scored nine goals this season - one fewer than Manchester City's Sergio Aguero alone. And, with Spurs still reeling from their catastrophic 6-0 humiliation by City, the pressure is on AVB to add some serious firepower to his under-performing side.
