Spurs Transfers: 5 January Signings For Tim Sherwood

2. Javier Pastore

One of the best and most effective ways for Tim Sherwood to leave his own mark on Tottenham is to succeed where predecessor Andre Villas-Boas failed - and bring in a worthy replacement for Gareth Bale. Of Villas-Boas's summer signings, none of the new midfield additions - Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen and Paulinho - can be described as 'Bale replacements' with any degree of conviction. Glenn Hoddle, who was in the running for the Spurs job before Sherwood secured the vacancy, recently claimed the Lilywhites still need a 'sprinkling of stardust' despite spending over £100 million in the last window. And that 'sprinkling of stardust' could come in the form of highly-rated playmaker Javier Pastore. The attacker cost Paris St Germain £36 million from Palermo two years ago and has been widely billed as a Bale replacement at White Hart Lane. A starlet with his best years ahead of him, Pastore would fit into Sherwood's system in that the new manager has an eye for developing young players, having served a five-year apprenticeship overseeing Spurs€™ junior teams. And 24-year-old Pastore could be just the type of spark Tottenham's midfield needs.
