Spurs Transfers: 7 Players They Should Have Signed With The Bale Money
3. Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Henrikh Mkhitaryan is a somewhat unlikely superstar - but by god he's a hell of a player. Born in Armenia, Mkhitaryan represents his country and has taken them from being a nothing team on the international stage to a team that are capable of giving anyone a game on their day (as demonstrated in their astounding 4-0 away victory against Denmark in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, when Mkhitaryan helped himself to a goal). Although his home country have not qualified for any major tournaments, Mkhitaryan was the top scorer in UEFA Euro 2012 qualifying Group B with six goals. This feat also earned him a place in the UEFA Euro 2012 Qualifying Dream Team. Last year, he was plying his trade in the Ukraine, where his goalscoring record for Shakhtar as an attacking midfielder was unbelievable. Spurs were linked with his signature on a number of occasions - along with fellow Premier League contenders Liverpool - but the dynamic player headed to Germany to sign for Borussia Dortmund instead. He cost the Bundesliga outfit £23.6m and has adapted to life in Germany with ease, scoring seven goals in the league and nine in total in his debut season so far. With that kind of adaptability, he would have been a cheaper alternative to the disappointing Erik Lamela - though, at 25, he is three years older than Spurs' Argentinian prospect.
