Spurs Transfers: Clint Dempsey Could Return On Loan?
Tottenham Hotspur are one of three Premier League teams reportedly interested in bringing former player Clint Dempsey back to England for a short-term loan stint in January, with Everton and Fulham - another of his former clubs - being the other two. The United States attacker only left White Hart Lane over the summer in a surprise switch to Major League Soccer outfit Seattle Sounders in his home country. Spurs sold the player for around £6 million, despite Andre Villas-Boas' reluctance to lose the player, to help to balance the books as they spent over £100 million on new players. Dempsey was looking for first team football ahead of next year's World Cup in order to keep match-fit and cement his place in his country's squad for the competition. He is yet to score for his new club, despite the massive hype surrounding his arrival and he will be looking for as many chances to shine as possible, making a January switch to England during the MLS break a very realistic proposition. Spurs have first refusal on the player, but whether or not Dempsey would want to return to White Hart Lane - where he would inevitably be a substitute - is another matter entirely. Former club Fulham or high-flying Everton (who have loaned from the MLS before) could be better choices for the player. Do you think Clint Dempsey returning to the Premier League on loan is a realistic possibility? Would it be a good move for the player? Who is he most likely to sign for?
