Stoke 3-5 Liverpool: Premier League Player Ratings

Stoke

Jack Butland: Third-choice Potters keeper beaten five times today, but hard to blame young Butland for any of them. His defence let him down big time here. Made a reaction stop for Coutinho, but otherwise spent most of the time picking the ball out of his own net. 5/10. Geoff Cameron: The best of a bad bunch in defence for Hughes today. American limited Coutinho's influence. 5/10. Ryan Shawcross: Stoke skipper set the tone for a woeful afternoon at the back. Deflected Cissokho's speculative shot past his own keeper and failed to cut out a poor Wilson back header for the first Suarez goal. It got worse from there too. Booked. 3/10. Marc Wilson: If he is a centre back then I might put my boots back on. In all the time I've watched football I've never seen such a pathetic defensive display and that is reflected in my lowest score ever. Largely responsible for the first Suarez goal, then suckered into making contact with lightweight Sterling for the penalty. Liverpool clicked Wilson is the weak link as the fifth goal happened in behind him. Should be dropped. 1.5/10. Erik Pieters: Just let Sterling race down the middle without tracking him in the build-up to the penalty. Dutchman is a million miles away from making the World Cup squad on this evidence. 4/10. Steven Nzonzi: A defensive midfielder is deployed to stop counterattacks. Nzonzi utterly failed in his charge and was subbed. 3/10. Glenn Whelan: A dark day for the Irishman, who is often so consistent for Stoke. 4/10. Jon Walters: Never provides any width whatsoever, but popped up to score the Potters' third late on. Distinctly average from an out of form player. 5/10. Charlie Adam: Set piece delivery was woeful. It's time Hughes let someone else have a go at corners and free kicks. Scot got hold of a rasping shot that brought Stoke level at 2-2 though. 5/10. Marko Arnautovic: Shot wildly over at 1-0, but assisted Crouch's goal with a fine cross. 5/10. Peter Crouch: A nuisance at corners and glanced in a precise header to get Potters back into it. The only player to emerge from this with any credit after toiling up top very much on his own. 5.5/10. Subs: Stephen Ireland: Came on for the last ten minutes. Rating N/A. Click next for Liverpool player ratings.
