Stoke Transfer News: Jack Butland Signing & Set For Birmingham Loan
Following on from the earlier news that Stoke City had made a £4m bid for Birmingham City and England goalkeeper Jack Butland, which came from BBC Sport,Sky Sports have confirmed that the player is likely to be loaned back to the Midlands club until the end of the season after agreement was reached between the two sides. Their valuation of the deal has the cash offer at just under £5m, rather than the BBC's £4m, for the international player who became the youngest ever England international goalkeeper in August, when he played against Italy at the age of just 19 years 158 days. The BBC say Butland was available thanks to Birmingham's well-publicised financial problems, and that he had already rejected talks with Champsions League winners Chelsea over a £3.5m move because he preferred to move somewhere with a greater chance of regular first-team football. That news followed links to Liverpool, Fulham, Newcastle and Manchester City, as well as Southampton and Everton who previously tried to sign him during the summer window. But Stoke have stolen a march on their rivals with his signature, which comes hot on the heels of a the Daily Mail's story that Chelsea might now be interested in Stoke's in-form 'keeper Asmir Begovic to offer more competition to Petr Cech at Stamford Bridge.
