Sunderland Next Manager: 5 Replacements For Martin O'Neill

2. Steve McClaren

McClaren "The Wally with the Brolly" was the somewhat harsh nickname afforded to Steve McClaren following his disastrous tenure as England manager which saw his side fail to qualify for Euro 2008, yet he is surprisingly the second favourite to take over from Martin O'Neill, according to reports. In the wake of his ill-fated England tenure, his reputation recovered somewhat as he led Dutch side FC Twente to the Eredivisie championship for the first time since their inception in 1965. Spells with VfL Wolfsburg and Nottingham Forest were sandwiched between a return to Twente in 2012, until he resigned in February this year. Currently without a club, could he manage in the Premier League for the first time since 2006 as Sunderland boss? Sky Bet Odds: 3/1
