Sunderland Transfer News: Giaccherini Could Have Signed For Napoli

emanuele giaccherini Wearside new boy Emanuele Giaccherini could have made the move to Napoli instead of Sunderland this summer, according to the Daily Star. Giaccherini signed for the Black Cats in July for a fee in the region of £8.6 million but it could have been a whole different story if the player had chosen to stay in Italy. The 28-year-old's agent, Furio Valcareggi, said in a recent interview with an Italian radio station, "I proposed Giaccherini to Napoli," "But Bigon refused." Giaccherini is one of several high profile players to have arrived at the Stadium of Light this summer as the Sunderland head coach, Paolo Di Canio, continues his summer recruitment drive. The Italian international penned a four-year-deal before joining up with the new-look sunderland squad at their Italian training base, where he started to impress his new team mates straight away. One player who was very excited by the signing of the winger was fellow attacker Adam Johnson. Speaking to the Evening Chronicle, England international Johnson said, "His technique is good, he can see a pass, he is clever like most Italian attackers. "I think he is only going to get stronger as well when he plays a few games." €œHe€™s not scared of the physical side of it. Against Tottenham (in Hong Kong) he put a tackle in on Kyle Walker early on when a lot of players probably would have shied away. He got going and got stuck in."
