Sunderland Transfer News: Poyet Makes Move For Eva Banega

Sunderland have made an ambitious move to bring Valencia's Argentina international Eva Banega to the Stadium Of Light. (Sky Sports News) The midfielder has been capped 24 times by his country and a move for such a player by Gus Poyet would show that he really means business in the current transfer window. The 25 year old started his career at Boca Juniors, before winning a move to the La Liga side in 2008, where he has played 133 games, as well as a loan spell with Atletico Madrid in 2009. Should the move materialise, he could be the fourth Argentinian to arrive on Wearside this January, following defender Santiago Vergini, goalkeeper Oscar Ustari and the inevitable signing on striker Ignacio Scocco, who is likely to sign before the window is slammed shut at 23:00 on the 31st January. The centre midfielder is known for his passing and dribbing, and of course his flair, but it is unsure whether this would be a move to add to the squad or if he would be a replacement for an outgoing player, with Lee Cattermole rumoured to be heading out of the door to Stoke City. It is also still uncertain as to whether Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Liam Bridcutt is to join up with his former head coach. Both the player and Poyet have made it clear that they want the move to happen, but Brighton are said to be holding out for either more money, or even to keep the Scotland international.
