Sunderland Transfers: 10 Players Sam Allardyce Must Sign

5. Sam Byram (Leeds)

Sam Byram is a long-term target of Sunderland, and this time, I can't help but feel like they need to land their man. The young Leeds right back has caught the eye of several Premier League sides, and his future almost certainly lies away from Elland Road, with his contract expiring at the end of the season. Lorient right back Lamine Gassama recently came out and claimed he had rejected Sunderland, so if Allardyce is in the market for a right back Byram could be the man. It's not a desperate position at the moment, with Billy Jones and DeAndre Yedlin both capable in that position, but the former is not a long-term solution and the latter is only on loan. Sunderland have also just snapped up Leeds' Head of Recruitment, so there's a route to successfully land Byram who is expected to have a fantastic future. There was a time when Sunderland failed to jump for full back Nathaniel Clyne before he was in the spotlight. They'll not want to repeat that mistake.
