Sunderland Transfers: 10 Players Sam Allardyce Must Sign

3. Charlie Austin (QPR)

Charlie Austin is a goalscorer. Sunderland need goalscorers who aren't named Jermain Defoe. The Austin to Newcastle saga dragged on throughout last summer but nothing came of it. Now that QPR aren't an instant shout for promotion, they may be forced into accepting an offer for their star man. To the 26-year-old's credit, Austin hasn't complained about the drop, and seems intent on giving his all while he remains at QPR. That's admirable, and demonstrates the sort of character Sunderland require as opposed to the Jeremain Lens' of this world who underperform then complain about being dropped just months after arrival. Austin will have plenty of suitors lined up, but the fact that nobody has made a hard effort to capture his signature suggests the door is open for Sunderland if they stump up the cash.
