Sunderland Transfers: Jozy Altidore Having Medical

Team Talk. The 23-year-old striker revealed Friday last week that a deal had been struck with the Black Cats, and that he would be signing for Paolo Di Canio's side. The American has already had a taste of life in the Premier League having played for Hull City between 2009-10 while on loan from Spanish outfit Villarreal, but only managed the one league goal. Since then however, the forward has come into his own, scoring 23 Eredivisie goals last season and 31 in 41 overall appearances. That impressive goal-haul has now persuaded Di Canio to give the star a second crack of the whip in England's topflight, as the Italian manager looks to overhaul the team he inherited from Martin O'Neill ahead of the new league campaign. The Black Cats have already unveiled Valentin Roberge, Cabral and Modibo Diakite, who have arrived at the Stadium of Light as free agents, while youngsters Duncan Watmore and David Moberg Karlsson have been added to the mix as well. Arsenal's reserve goalkeeper Vito Mannone has also joined Sunderland as the replacement for Simon Mignolet, who recently left for Liverpool.
