In terms of the football on display, this was possibly the best a Sunderland side has played in the past ten years. The final score was 0-3, but it could’ve easily been five or six, such was the quality of chances Sunderland created and missed.

The Black Cats got off to a flyer as the in-form wingers, Borini and Johnson, kick started the thrashing.

Phil Bardsley was brought down in the area to give Fabio the chance to score from the spot, a chance he took with aplomb. It was then Jozy Altidore of all people who caressed a terrific flick to set Jack Colback in on goal, his shot was saved, but it ultimately fell to Johnson to slot into an empty net.

The win was crowned when current Magpie Jack Colback stuck the ball in the top corner late on to mark a comprehensive victory for Wearside.
