Sunderland's Greatest Ever Premier League XI

1. GK - Thomas Sorensen

Sunderland's track record with goalkeepers is actually rather terrific. Some immense stoppers have sat behind a team of red and white, including Simon Mignolet, Craig Gordon, Costel Pantilimon, and to an extent Vito Mannone and Martin Fulop were also excellent for spells, but the best of the lot was the first to start the trend of top goalkeepers, Thomas Sorensen. The Great Dane stalked the goal-line at the Stadium of Light for five years producing some incredible saves and generally instilling a great air of confidence from the very back. Keepers only have to be reliable to succeed and that was Sorensen, though saving an Alan Shearer penalty at St. James' Park skyrockets him to the top of the pack. An iconic moment, an iconic keeper.
