Swansea City: 5 Managers Who Could Replace Brendan Rodgers

With Brendan Rodgers being confirmed as the new Liverpool manager this afternoon, who should Swansea look at to replace the Northern Irishman at the Liberty Stadium?

2012 was looking to be a great year for Swansea City. The club are due to celebrate their centenary year in what will be their second season in the Premier League however the one year anniversary of their famous play-off win that got them there will be remembered for something very different. The mastermind of that promotion, Brendan Rodgers, has agreed terms with Liverpool for what is believed to be a 3 year contract with the Swans receiving upto £5m in compensation for the 39-year old. Swansea fans will be used to this feeling. Since 2009 where Roberto Martinez left to join Wigan Athletic, followed by 2010's departure of Paolo Sousa to Leicester and now the trend continues with Rodgers taking the helm of Liverpool. But with departures come arrivals and with Rodgers showcasing the talent of the Swansea squad to the world, there could be plenty more potential suitors to grace the Liberty Stadium than their last managerial hunt in 2010.

Gus Poyet

Current Club: Brighton and Hove Albion Odds: 6/1 Poyet was linked heavily with the Swansea twice in the past three years after impressing in his spells as assistant coach at Tottenham and managerial role at Brighton however it was his relative lack of full managerial experience that might've cost him the role. Fast forward two years and the Uruguayan looks to be in pole position for the spot. One major plus for Poyet is that the transition of style for the existing Swansea squad would be minimal - something that chairman Huw Jenkins has strived to address with each of his appointments post-Martinez. A keen eye for talent and the continuation of links with Chelsea, and now Spurs, for the Welsh side would also be other major positives if he was to land the role.
