Roberto Martinez
Current Club: Wigan Athletic Odds: 9/1 Stranger things have happened haven't they? Roberto Martinez was the leading candidate for the Liverpool role, providing what appeared to be consistent interest from both parties for the Spaniard. However it was his spell at Swansea which really set the ball rolling for Martinez's managerial career. After spending three years playing for Swansea and two years managing them, Martinez eventually left for Wigan Athletic in 2009 and was dubbed "El Judas" by the Swansea faithful. With Wigan continually languishing in the bottom five places of the Premier League over the past few seasons could Martinez cross over the border once again and return to South Wales? The pro's for Swansea are clear to see. Many of the players will know the man well and he'll be extremely familiar with the style of play considering it was Martinez himself who first introduced the Swanselona style. A meeting is scheduled to occur today between Martinez and Dave Whelan about the manager's future. Whether he'll opt to remain with the Lancashire team, revitalise the links with the Aston Villa vacancy or put wheels in motion to make a sensational return to Swansea after these recent events will all be clearer in the near future.
