The Most Expensive Liverpool XI Of All Time
2. ST: Christian Benteke
Up to now this team has, for the most part, been stacked with quality in its back-line and midfield. But up top it's a different story.
Over the years Liverpool have been blessed with some of the most prolific strikers in history. Michael Owen, Fernando Torres, Luis Suarez. Unfortunately for Reds' fans the most expensive one is Christian Benteke.
In Brendan Rodgers defence, seemed a good deal at the time. Benteke had been prolific at Aston Villa for a number of years and he endeared himself to the Liverpool faithful almost straight away by scoring a spectacular bicycle kick against arch-rivals Manchester United.
But the Belgian was a small fish in a big pond at Anfield. 10 goals in 42 games is OK at a mid-table club but nowhere near good enough at the top level. The target man was never going to be able to adapt to Klopp's high press philosophy and as such he was sold at a loss to Crystal Palace after just one season with Liverpool.
He's still with the South London club today, where, after an admittedly brilliant debut season, everything has gone awry. Benteke has scored just five goals in the last three seasons, leaving many to wonder whether he'll ever rediscover his shooting boots.
